MAIMANA (PAN): Half a dozen highway policemen were killed after insurgents attacked their post on Friday in northwestern Faryab province, where a gas cylinder blast left two members of a family dead and eight others wounded, officials said.

The insurgent attack took place in Qaisar district in the morning, the district chief, Abdul Jamil Siddique, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said six highway policemen were killed and four others wounded in the assault in Doaba area.

Deputy police chief Col. Mohammad Naeem said the Taliban had overrun the post, but he had no details about police casualties. He said reinforcements had been sent to the area, but acknowledged the post could not be retaken without Afghan National Army’s support.

In Pashtunkot district, a cylinder blast killed two members of a family and injured eight others, the district chief, Abdul Qadir Qadri, told Pajhwok Afghan News, saying the incident took place in the Kata Qala area’s Qul village.

He said the dead were a child and a woman and injured included four women, two children and as many men, who had been taken to a hospital in Maimana, the provincial capital. The leaking gas cylinder exploded a match was lit around it.

A doctor at the hospital, Mohammad Amin, said they had been delivered seven injured people and they were in danger.
