2,230 appear in Kandahar entry test

Jan 26, 2014 - 18:10

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Of the 2,316 registered candidates, 2,230 including 300 girls appeared in the university entry in southern Kandahar province on Sunday, officials said.

A 22-member Ministry of Higher Educationinfo-icon delegation, led by Gul Hassan Walizi, arrived in the provincial capital from Kabulinfo-icon to conduct the test.

Hassan was happy to note an increase in the number of students taking part in the entry tests. However, he said the strength of candidates from Kandahar was still less than other provinces.

He said Khost was a small province but the number of candidates for the entry test was very high -- a matter of great satisfaction.

Insecurity in Kandahar remained a hurdle to education, he said, adding improvement in law and order would allow more boys and girls to get education.

Akbar Jan Arzomand, a member of the delegation, told Pajhwok Afghan News though the strength of entry test candidates had surged, the number of female students was still low.
