HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Six border policemen were killed and a seventh injured on Monday when one of their colleagues opened fire on them in western Herat province, officials said.

Col. Abdur Rauf Ahmadi, the provincial police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the shooting took place in Kashk-i-Kohna area this morning. The motive behind the insider attack is yet to be known.

General Mohammad Gummah Adil, the fourth police zone commander, confirmed the assault and said a team had been sent to the area to investigate the incident.

Elsewhere, an explosion was heard near the Eidgah Masjid in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province. The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, said that no causalities had been reported so far.

But an eyewitness said that one person was wounded as a result of the explosion that came a day after 10 people were killed and injured in twin blasts in the Achin blast of Nangarhar.
