KABUL (Pajhwok): The Kabul Municipality on Tuesday burnt 36 tonnes of low-quality and expired food stuff, cosmetics and beverages and imposed fines on sellers.

Mohammad Idrees Tokhi, environmental department head at the municipality, said the stuff included 119 edibles, cosmetics and beverages recovered from 720 stores and shops in the city.

The retailers were selling the stuff in a clandestine way, he said, adding the sellers were fined around $50 each. “There are still expired and low-quality materials in Kabul and we have started a drive to recover them.”

Eng. Khugman Ulumi, civil services department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News the stuff was collected after the environmental department was created under the municipality.

Representatives from health) and High Office of Oversight were present on the occasion.
