KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on Thursday said the payment of pension can be made by banks, benefitting 40,000 retired personnel.

Earlier, retired individuals used to receive their pension from various offices after waiting for days for their turn to come.

Amina Afzali, the mister for labour and social affairs, told a seminar on “National Retirement Day” her ministry was offering pension payment through banks.

“The retired people will now be issued with a bank card through which they will be able to withdraw their pensions. They will not need any more to wait for days,” she said.

The new initiative, the minister, said would help counter the risk of fraud in getting pension.

Officials of the ministry said the number of retired individuals reached to 130,000 while 40,000 of them would be issued with bank cards.

Head of the retired individuals, Col. Juman Khan, lauded the performance of the ministry by saying: “We are happy and appreciate the initiative of the ministry.”

But Sharifa, a retired individual, said she was still facing problems in receiving her pension. She demanded the ministry should ensure provision of cards to all retired public servants.

However, the minister said more time was needed to issue bank cards to all and sundry and efforts were on to facilitate all of them.

According to country’s constitution, any Afghan after serving the country for 40 years would get retired and the government will bound to pay a special amount of money.
