Karzai, Cameron confer on security deal

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): President Hamid Karzai has held a telephonic conversation with British Prime Minister David Cameron on various issues of mutual interest, including the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA).

The Presidential Palace said on Saturday the two leaders discussed bilateral relations, the outcome of Afghanistaninfo-icon-Pakistaninfo-icon-Britain trilateral meeting and the Kabul-Washington security pact.

During Friday’s conversation, Karzai said the consultative Loya Jirgainfo-icon’s endorsement of the accord proved the strong friendship between Afghanistan and the US.   

He added: “The Afghans want peace and security in their country. Practical and resumption of peace talks with the Talibaninfo-icon is among important preconditions for inking the deal.”

For his part, Cameron assured Karzai of Britain’s continued support for Afghanistan, the statement concluded.
