KABUL (Pajhwok): On the eve of the presidential election campaign, President Hamid Karzai on Saturday asked candidates to highlight their programmes and priorities through the media.
The two-month campaign for the April presidential vote begins tomorrow. Eleven individuals are in the run for replacing Karzai, who has had two terms and can’t contest the ballot for a third time under the constitution.
In a statement from his office, Karzai welcomed the campaign launch, calling the elections an effective step toward strengthening democracy and political stability in the country.
While hoping the political and democratic struggle would boost national unity, the president urged the media to give equal coverage to candidates’ plans, policies and priorities.
