KABUL/KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): With the completion of construction work, two mosques were formally handed over to the authorities in southeastern Khost and central Maidan Wardak provinces on Saturday, officials said.

Both mosques were built at a cost of 36 million afghanis. Khost Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi, lawmaker Liaqatullah Babakarkhel, local elders, religious scholars and youth attended a handover ceremony for the mosque.

Officials said the mosque was located in the Azadi Mina area west of Khost City. Funded by a well-off United Arab Emirates (UAE) citizen, the 26 millions afghanis mosque has capacity for 1,000 people.

The newly built mosque would serve the community because Azadi Mini was close to a number of localities, Naeemi said, adding the worship place had facilities including solar energy.

Similarly, another mosque worth 10 million afghanis was inaugurated in the Jalrez district of Maidan Wardak province. Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, said the mosque was built on half an acre of land and funded by the local business community.
