JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two women were among seven people security forces detained with hand-grenades in the Behsud district of eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday.

Deputy police chief Col. Qari Amir Khan Lewal told Pajhwok Afghan News the detainees belonged to Pakistan’s northwestern district of Swat and they had the intention to carry out disruptive activities in Nangarhar.

He said the detainees were currently being interrogated at the provincial police headquarters after they were arrested from a car during a search at the Behsud Bridge check post.

They had obtained the explosives in neighbouring Kunar province, which borders Pakistan’s Bajaur tribal region, said Lewal.

The official said the number of check posts had been increased in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, to prevent explosives from being smuggled into the city.

Search operations were underway in Chaparhar and Pachira Gam districts and security posts would be established in cleared areas, the police official said.
