KABUL to the negotiating table, a media report said on Wednesday.

“That’s what they asked for, and we didn’t tell them no,” the Washington Post quoted an unnamed US official as saying. However, the strikes against senior Al-Qaeda targets will continue.

According to the newspaper, there has been a pause in the drone attacks since December. In November, Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud was eliminated in a similar strike days before peace talks were to begin.

Subsequently, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s administration assailed the United States for seeking to sabotage the peace effort and the militants scrapped the dialogue plan.

On Tuesday, lawmaker Mike Rogers, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, slammed President Obama’s policy changes to the drone campaign as an utter and complete failure, leaving Americans’ lives at risk.
