KHOST CITY (PAN): About 200 people on Thursday held a rally in southeastern Khost province, voicing support for presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai in the April elections.

Tribal elders, civil society activists, residents and the youth attended the rally that came as the presidential election campaign entered its fifth day.

Ziaur Rahman Tanha, a campaigner for Ghani, called on the rally participants to support the former Kabul University chancellor in making it to the presidency in order he could implement his programmes.

In the strategic viewpoint, he said, Khost ranked top in Ghani’s plans, calling on Khost residents to vote for the former finance minister, who finished fourth behind Hamid Karzai in the previous elections.

Tribal elder from Garbaz district Haji Ahmad Khan Garbaz asked the people of Khost to actively participate in the April 5 elections.

He said should vote for a candidate who could promise greater representation of Khost residents in the government.

The elder claimed 99 percent Khost residents had voted for President Karzai in the 2009 elections, but unfortunately the two-time president did not pay heed to the impoverished province.

Another elder Haji Wakil Mangal said people should vote for a candidate keeping in mind his programmes regardless of his linguistic or ethnic background.

Civil society activist Zahid Shah Angar said the people of Khost would support a candidate who was committed to the country’s development and interests.
