KABUL Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) on Sunday hoped the next president to be chosen in the April elections would be able to bring about peace, stability and justice to the country.
Addressing a seminar “Memories of the War and Peace,” AIHRC director Sima Samar said the Afghan people suffered a lot due to the three decades of war in their country.
She said it was high time presidential candidates should work for peace and justice and avoid past mistakes.
Samar said the rights body would help the Ministry Information and Culture open a museum honouring war victims.
She said the April elections offered an opportunity to strength rule of law, ensure justice and strike unity among the Afghans.
The AIHRC official lamented programmes and policies of presidential candidates showed none of them had any comprehensive plan to promote human rights and assist war victims.
Information and Culture Minister Syed Makhdum Rahin told the seminar the proposed museum would be built on a 50-acre of land.
He said his ministry was making efforts to construct the museum, where photos of war victims would be displayed.
He also said his ministry was planning to build a candle-shaped palace in the memory of war victims, but a lack of budget had been a setback to the plan.
