ISLAMABAD (Pajhwok): Nine people of the same family were killed on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen stormed a house on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said.

The armed men entered the house In Budaber area and launched an attack by opening fire and hurling hand grenades. At least nine people lost their lives in the assault, Superintendent of Police Rahim Shah said.

Deputy Superintendent Police Fazal-i-Wahid said the militants entered the house of Pir Israr and separated women from men. Later, they tied hands and feet of male family members and shot them dead.

The dead were identified as Israr Ali, one of his sons, two of his brothers and four of his nephews. Locals said the victims were members of local peace force. Four members of the family were killed a few days ago in a gunbattle with militants.

Najibur Rehman, another senior police official, said the assailants had come from the tribal region of Khyber. The family was attacked because of its affiliation with the peace committee, he added.
