LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Seven insurgents and two policemen have been killed in Helmand and Uruzgan provinces, officials said on Thursday.
Five fighters were killed and four others wounded in a clash in an overnight clash Marja district of Helmand, a police spokesman said.
Col. Abdul Ahad Chopan told Pajhwok Afghan News two policemen were wounded in the firefight that also led to the seizure of an assault rifle.
Separately, two policemen were killed in a Taliban attack on their checkpoint in Greshk district, he said.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, said 11 security personnel had been killed in clashes with fighters in Tarkha Nawar and Sangilan areas — a claim rejected by the authorities.
In central Uruzgan province, two suspected militants were killed by the roadside bomb they were planting beneath a bridge in Deh Rawud district, a statement from the governor’s office said.
