Summit to help stabilise Afghanistan: Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (Pajhwok): The trilateral summit being held in Ankara would help maintain peace and stability in Afghanistaninfo-icon and region at large, Pakistaninfo-icon hoped on Thursday.

Islamabad had always been supportive of reconciliation in Afghanistan, the Foreign Office spokeswoman, Tasnim Aslam, told a media briefing in Islamabad.

“Peace in Afghanistan will also have a good impact on Pakistan,” she said, adding the 8th summit was being organised at a time when security and political transitions were taking place in Afghanistan.

With Afghan presidential and provincial council elections scheduled for April 5, NATOinfo-icon-led forces are to draw down from the country at the end of the current year.

Saudi Arabia Prince Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud, who is scheduled to visit Pakistan from Feb. 15 to 17, will meet Pakistani leaders on the situation in Afghanistan.
