KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Sunday 24 more polling stations had been secured in northern Sar-i-Pul and eastern Laghman provinces.
The Afghan National Police (ANP) had conducted as many as 60 offensives, killing 85 insurgents during the past week to ensure security of the polling stations, said, Siddiq Saddiqui, spokesman of the ministry.
The newly secured 24 polling centres were situated in Gosfandi, Sancharak, Sozma Qala and Kohistanat districts of northern Sar-i-pul province while some other polling stations were also secured in Dawlatshahi and Alishing districts of Laghman province.
“Now 366 polling centre are closed because of security reasons, however, efforts are underway to make them secure,” he remarked.
The spokesman said since the start of the elections campaign, around 200 small and big gatherings had been held across Afghanistan without reporting any security problem.
