Number of slain women rises to 32 in Jawzjan

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A woman was gunned down by her in-laws in Jawzjan, taking the number of womeninfo-icon killed in the northern province this solar yearinfo-icon to 32, police said on Sunday.

Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani told Pajhwok Afghan News the 21-year-old married woman had been shot to death with a hunting rifle in Shiberghan, the provincial capital.

He said her spouse and father-in-law had been detained by police for interrogation.

The civil hospital chief, Mohammad Haroon, said the postmortem report revealed she had been shot in the chest.

Maghfirat Samimi, Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) chief for Jawzjan, Faryab and Sar-i-Pul provinces, strongly condemned the murder. She urged judicial organs to punish the perpetrators.
