KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Monday said it had disqualified another five provincial council candidates for submitting fake academic documents.
The electoral watchdog has started a new round of vetting nomination documents of 400 more provincial council runners.
IECC member and spokesman Nadir Mohseni told a press conference in Kabul they vetted documents of 90 candidates since Saturday and found fake the academic certificates provided by five candidates.
Previously, 40 candidates have been disqualified for being below the age limit of 25 years.
The latest disqualifications come a day before provincial council candidates are all set to embark on electioneering.
More than 2,700 people have applied for running in the April 5 provincial council elections across the country.
