CHAGHCHARAN (Pajhwok): Militants shot dead three teachers and abducted another in Shahrak district of western Ghor province on Saturday, officials said.

Sibghatullah Akbari, director provincial education killed the teachers when they were on their way back to homes after appearing in the capacity building test.

Condemning the brutal act in strongest possible terms, Akbari asked the government to adopt measures to prevent the killing of innocent and defenseless educators.

The fourth teacher kidnapped by the Taliban was still in their custody and the local elders were trying to ensure his safe release.

Col. Zainul Abideen, acting provincial security chief, said the teachers were killed in a Taliban’s bastion between Tewra and Shahrak districts.

He assured to employ all resources to ensure release of the captive teacher and to punish the perpetrators.

Earlier, local officials said the teachers had campaign letters of provincial council members but the office of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said they were in the capital to attend training session.

However, Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

During this year, Mohammad Masoom, an officer of the Tewra district education department was killed in an explosion while two other teachers of this district were killed by unidentified gunmen.
