KABUL-designated district chief was among seven militants killed during separate clashes with Afghan security forces in western Farah and southern Kandahar provinces, officials said on Monday.

The shadow district chief for Bakwa town of Farah province was killed along with his three companions during a clash with security forces late on Sunday, the governor’s house said in a statement.

Another eight insurgents were injured in the clash that erupted when Afghan forces targeted rebel hideouts in Shah Toran and Spinkai areas, the statement said, adding two policemen were also wounded in the engagement.

Elsewhere, four militants were detained during an operation in southeastern Paktia province on Sunday, police said.

The four were detained in Sikandar Khail area of Ahmad Khail district, where Afghan forces also recovered a huge amount of weapons and ammunition, police chief Zalmai Oryakhail told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Separately, three militants were killed and two others wounded during an operation in southern Kandahar province the other day.

A statement issued by the 205th Attal Military Corps confirmed the casualties suffered by militants. It claimed some weapons and bomb-making materials were also seized during the operation.
