JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Militants laced with heavy and light weapons attacked a district police headquarters in eastern Nangarhar province and the ensuing clash left six attackers dead and nearly a dozen others wounded, an official said on Wednesday.

Police and civilians suffered no casualties during Tuesday’s clash that occurred in Chaparhar district, provincial police spokesman Maj. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News.

With no Taliban spokesman immediately available for comments, Mashriqiwal claimed police repulsed the attackers, who suffered heavy losses in men and material during the hour-long battle.

In Kandahar City, the provincial capital, police detained five individuals on different charges and recovered explosives and ammunition during search operations in several areas, the police spokesman said.

Meanwhile, three persons were wounded when the roof of a mosque collapsed in Charbagh area of Sara Rud district.

Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the incident and said the injured had been shifted to a local hospital.
