SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The Swedish senior civilian representative in northern Afghanistan on Wednesday said his country would spend $1.2 billion in various Afghan sectors over the next decade.

Talking to reporters in Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province, Jonas Westerlund  said half of the aid would be spent through the Afghan government and the remaining through different Swedish non-governmental organisations.

He said the assistance would be utilised to bring about improvements in Afghanistan’s education sector and to strengthen the private sector, democracy, gender equality and human rights.

The proposed projects would be started executing in 2015 and would be completed until 2025, he said.

Westerlund  said the aid would be spent across Afghanistan and the Swedish government had prepared projects for all the 34 provinces.

He said since 1982, the Swedish government has been assisting Afghanistan in diverse fields and his country was committed to assisting Afghanistan in the future.
