MAZAR-I-SHARIF/JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two gatherings were held in support of presidential candidates Hidayat Amin Arsala and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in eastern Nangarhar and northern Balkh provinces on Sunday.

The public meeting held in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar, was held in favour of Arsala. Fifty percent of people were living below the poverty line, Arsala said, pledging creation of job opportunities.

Arsala promised taking revolutionary steps to make the country a hub of economic activity in the region if he won the presidential ballot.

Safia Siddiqui, his choice for the second vice-president, urged the masses to cast their vote in favour of Arsala’s team for the sake of a prosperous and stable Afghanistan.

Separately, a large number of people gathered in support of Dr. Abdullah in the Balkh district of northern Balkh province.

Abdullah’s campaign’s spokesman Gen. Abdul Saboor told Pajhwok Afghan News people from far-flung areas attended the gathering and announced support to the presidential runner.
