Qualified women offered higher police ranks

KABUL government servants would be given similar ranks in the police force based on a presidential decree, Interior Minister Omar Daudzai said on Tuesday.

Addressing a women’s day function in Kabul, Daudzai said steps had been taken to create a better work environment for women to strengthen their role in the police force.

Currently 2,200 women are serving in police force and efforts are in place to elevate the number to 10,000, according to Daudzai, who said: “I’m glad announcing better job opportunities for the women willing to joining the force.”       

Women with high work experience and civilian ranks would be given the same police ranks in compliance with the president’s orders, Daudzai added.  

One woman was recently elevated as the first district police chief and another as deputy border police head at the Kabul airport. Since the appointment of Jamila Bayat as district police chief, the crime graph had fallen, the minister said.

This year, hundreds of police officials were sent to Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia, Korea and other countries for training courses. The returnees will be appointed to higher positions.
