KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Wednesday warned presidential and provincial council candidates of stern legal action if they violated rules governing electioneering.
IECC spokesman Nader Mohseni said they were satisfied with the campaigning to some extent and seriously observing it.
He told a press conference in Kabul they had received some documents and evidence regarding law violations during the campaign.
He warned if irregularities by candidates were proved in the documents, serious deal legal action would be initiated against the violators.
“We advise both presidential and provincial council hopefuls to adhere to positive competition and abstain from disrupting the campaign environment.”
Mohseni asked candidates to outline their future plans and programmes to the people instead of mudslinging and other negative activities.
He said electoral law violations and negative activities were in conflict with the Constitution and violators would be tried.
“We have already addressed 20 complaints and now some monitoring groups have informed us about unwholesome campaigning by some candidates and the issue will be addressed publicly,” he said.
