KABUL (Pajhwok): Minister of Justice Habibullah Ghalib died on Thursday after prolonged ailment, an official said.

Mohammad Hashim Hashimzai, senior advisor to the Ministry of Justice, told Pajhwok Afghan News Ghalib suffered brain hemorrhage a day earlier.

The minister passed away at the US military hospital at Bagram today. The advisor said the time of Ghalib’s funeral would be announced later.

Ghalib did graduation in 1964 before joining the Ministry of Justice. He stayed in Egypt from 1967 to 1969 to pursue Graduate Studies at the Al Azhar University in Cairo. He did his MA in Comparative Islamic Jurisprudence and Law.

A founding member of the Cultural Council of Afghanistan. In interim government, he served as a member of the Independent Legal and Judicial Reform Commission and Chairman of the Committee on Reform of Laws.

He was nominated as justice minister by President Karzai on January 14, 2010. Ghalib attended conferences on drafting of the constitution and formation of government in Switzerland and Washington.
