KABUL) commander on Friday promised support to Afghan forces in securing next month’s presidential and provincial elections.
Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr. said: “Election is very important. We will stay neutral in the politics of the election, but we will continue to support the police and army as they provide a safe environment for all Afghans to vote.
Greeting the Afghans on the Persian New Year, he said: “This is your election and we will look forward to your decision. We stand behind the Afghan people, their military and their government.”
While lauding past year’s achievements, he said the Afghan police and army had proved that they could stand on their own and protect the people. Their brave demonstrated their dedication to a secure, stable and unified Afghanistan, he added.
“However, these successes have not been without cost. We know that the sacrifices of the Afghan security forces and the Afghan people had been great. We thank you all for your continued hospitality and friendship.”
