KABUL, or lower house of the parliament, on Tuesday, an official said on Monday.
A Jamiat-i-Islami leader and former speaker, Qanuni was appointed as first vice-president a week ago. The decision was taken at a meeting, chaired by President Hamid Karzai.
Qanuni would appear before the assembly for a trust vote, Wolesi Jirga Secretary Eng. Syed Ikram told Pajhwok Afghan News. Lawmakers will fix a date for the vote of confidence.
He replaces Marshal Qasim Fahim, who died earlier in the month of a cardiac arrest. Subsequently, Jamiat-i-Islami and mujahideen leaders named Qanuni to replace Fahim.
