TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A Taliban-designated chief for the Chahab district of northern Takhar province was detained by Afghan security forces, officials said on Sunday.
Mohammad Fazel, known as Sangaryar, recently came to Takhar to disrupt election security in the province, said Chahab district chief, Saifuddin Mushtaq.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban leader was detained with a list of 215 election sites he was trying target. The arrest was made in Khelan area.
Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Security said Sangaryar, enjoying direct support from Pakistan, planned to conduct terrorist and disruptive activities.
A statement from the spy service said an accomplice of Sangaryar was also detained with a list of electoral sites and a map of the district.
The detainees were currently under investigation and confessed to their crimes, the statement said.
