KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least 14 people were killed in a powerful roadside bombing in northern Kunduz province on Monday afternoon, an official said.
The fatalities occurred when local police commander Mohammad Omar’s pick-up struck the bomb in the Bodiun area of Khanabad district. All victims were relatives of the commander.
Omar himself escaped unhurt in the explosion, Syed Sarwar Hussaini, the provincial police spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Another person was wounded in the explosion, he said.
The pro-government commander, known for fighting against the Taliban, helps control security in the Aqtash area of the district.
Separately, crime branch official Islam Hussain was killed in a similar explosion in Mullahkhel area. An employee of the prosecutor’s office was reportedly wounded.
