PUL-I-ALAM/LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Nine militants have been killed and five others wounded in separate incidents in southern Logar and Helmand provinces, officials said on Tuesday.
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief said six militants and their commander were killed when a suicide vest they were preparing for attack exploded.
The incident occurred in the Shash Kala area of Charkh district, he added.
In another incident, police shot dead three Taliban and wounded five others during operations in Nahar Saraj locality of Greshk district last evening.
Col. Abdul Ahad Chopan, Helmand Police spokesman, confirmed the incident, saying police had diffused 21 mines in the area. He said the offensive was launched to bolster security for the upcoming elections.
