SHARAN (Pajhwok): Six militants have been killed in the Giyan district of southeastern Paktika province, officials said on Friday.
A huge quantity of arms was recovered from insurgents in Khairkot district, Samiullah, spokesman for the 203rd Thunder Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the Afghan National Army (ANA) seized the weapons, which had been smuggled from North Waziristan for disruptive acts on elections day.
Maj. Gen. Nabi Jan Mullahkhel, the provincial police chief, showed the confiscated weapons to journalists, saying the arms had been seized on the basis of an intelligence tip-off.
Police had taken all possible measures to ensure tight security for tomorrow’s elections throughout the province, he noted.
