CHAGHCHARAN (Pajhwok): Three Taliban province, a senior official said on Friday.
Governor Syed Anwar Rahmati told Pajhwok Afghan News the rebels were trying to shut polling stations in the Ghalmin area on the outskirts of the provincial capital.
The fighters, who met strong resistance from residents, had to flee the area as a result of the overnight clash that left nine people wounded, Rahmati said. Five of the injured are civilians.
The governor noted 11 polling stations — four the Murghab area, four in Teura district, two in Pasaband and one Charsadda — would remain closed for security reasons, he said.
With the closure of the 11 centres, the number of insecure polling sites would reach 41, according to the governor. The election commission has planned 241 polling sites across the province.
