MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Hundreds of residents on Friday took to the streets in Maimana, the capital of northern Faryab province, against the Freedom Party leader.
Enraged protestors set alight Gen. Abdul Malik photograph and denounced him for killing of Faryab residents.
Malik is a brother of Rasul Pahlawan, a former deputy chief of the Junbish-i-Millie Afghanistan — led by Uzbek warlord Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum.
Under a deal in 1997, Malik let Taliban fighters extend their presence to Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.
He recently announced support to front-line presidential runner Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, and had his photographs pasted on Maimana walls.
One protester Ahmad Feroz accused Gen. Malik of killing his father, uncle and other relatives. “I respect Abdullah as a political leader, but oppose people like Malik on his side.”
