KABUL (Pajhwok): Two civilians and 14 rebels were killed and many others wounded in a spate of security incidents on the Election Day in eastern Kunar province, official said on Saturday.

Governor Shujaul Mulk Jalala said this at a joint news conference with police chief, Abdul Hasib Syedkheli, and election commission head, Abdul Zahir Akbari at the end of the voting process.

Jalala said three of 94 polling centres in the province stayed shut due to security problems. In a number of districts, armed rebels stormed polling stations, while five missiles were fired into the province from cross the Durand Line.

He added two civilians had been killed and seven army soldiers, two policemen 14 civilians injured.  More casualties happened in Shigal and Watapur districts, with Pakistani troops storming Khas Kunar district.

At the same time, Syedkheli said security forces protected polling centres. Fourteen insurgents were killed and five others wounded as security forces retaliated rebel attacks.

Akbari said they faced a shortage of ballot papers in some parts of the province, but the problem was resolved after the arrival of extra papers.
