KABUL (Pajhwok): Officials said a dozen people, including a woman, had been arrested in some provinces on electoral fraud charges.

The woman was detained along with three men at polling sites by security forces in southeastern Khost province, the governor’s office said.

It claimed 1,067 voter cards were recovered from the four detainees who wanted to poll the votes in favour of a candidate.

The statement said Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi had directed security organs to prevent fraud besides maintaining security at polling stations.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior said six individuals had been arrested on electoral fraud charges in Kabul and southern Kandahar provinces.

The ministry earlier said the crime branch police chief of the Syedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province and an intelligence official had been arrested for allegedly committing electoral fraud.

Local officials said the detained officials were being interrogated. But a security official claimed the two had falsely been implicated by other officials.
