KABUL (Pajhwok): With the final result not expected in weeks, the campaign office of presidential contender Dr. Zalmai Rassoul on Wednesday said Saturday’s presidential vote might go to a second round and he was fully prepared to contest the run-off.
A statement from the media wing of Rassoul’s campaign office said the ex-foreign minister headed a meeting that directed all regional campaign managers to get ready for a run-off election.
The Constitution says if none of the presidential contenders obtains 50+1 percent of votes, the election goes to a second-round run-off election among the two top-rated candidates. A run-off is held two weeks after the announcement of the final result.
Rassoul campaign office also alleged massive rigging in the elections and said it had submitted complaints in this regard with the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC).
It said they had started preparations for a second round of elections including making alliances with other contenders.
