A statement from the UK embassy on Wednesday said the £32.2m ($53m) worth of additional funding would take effect in time for the 2015/16 academic year.
It represents a significant boost for a scholarship programme which has gone from strength to strength since its establishment in 1983.
Chevening, the UK’s flagship international scholarship programme, funds current and emerging leaders from around the world in the UK, the statement said.
Awards are typically for a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any of Britain’s leading universities.
