KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Kabul Municipality has so far planted nearly three million trees during the past three years in central Kabul province, an official said on Thursday.

A senior municipality official Nasrin Sabri, launching a drive to plant 500 seedlings in Kabul, said they were concerned about damages caused to new plants by children.

She said it was encouraging that the youth evinced a keen interest in planting trees and motivating others to promote the culture in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

However, she said such efforts lacked support from police to protect baby trees and cited damage to plants by passing sheep another problem.

A civil societyinfo-icon activist Aminullah Kawah, who participated in the tree plantation drive, said recreation parks added to the beauty of Kabul City and its environmentinfo-icon.

“Every citizen should regard Kabul as own home and play a part in keeping it clean,” Kawah added.
