FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A Taliban commander has been killed and his two associates wounded in a clash with Afghan forces in northwestern Badakhshan province, an official said on Wednesday.

Qari Mafooz was killed, his two associates wounded and four others arrested when they confronted the Afghan security forces in Doaab area of Baharak district last night, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Nawin Frotan told Pajhwok Afghan News.

An Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was also injured in the firefight, Frotan said.

Abdul Samea Attique, Baharak district chief, said Mahfooz was the person plotting militants’ attacks on security posts in Baharak, Juram and Warduj districts of the province.

Taliban did not comment on the incident.
