Saudi ready to support Afghan peace bid: envoy

KABUL Misfer bin Abdulrahman Al Ghasib on Saturday said the kingdom would facilitate the Afghan-led peace process by adopting all possible measures.

Al-Ghasib called on Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani and discussed with him a range of issues, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

During the course of meeting, it said Osmani urged the Saudi envoy to help strenghen the peace bid in Afghanistan and address problems being faced by Afghan workers in Saudi Arabia.

The ambassador said his government was working out a comprehensive plan to resolve problems of Afghans working in his country.

The statement said the two officials also conferred on bilateral relations, reconstruction projects in Afghanistan and peace efforts.

Osmani said: “Afghanistan values friendly ties with Saudi Arabia and Riyadh can play an effective role in Afghan peace process.”

The Saudi envoy also invited Osmani to attend a conference finance ministers from Muslim countries in Saudi Arabia in June.
