“Everyone who emerges victor in the elections will be the president of all Afghans. I will surrender him charge in a colourful ceremony because his success (in election) is the success of Afghans,” Karzai told tribal elders visiting him at the Presidential Palace.

The ulema said Karzai helped united the nation and encouraged communities to overcome past divisions. Karzai helped strengthened national forces and called into session five times the Loya Jirgainfo-icon and created the High Peace Councilinfo-icon to find a negotiated solution to the insurgency.
