Apr 28, 2014 - 13:48

GARDEZ CITY (Pajhwok): Two policemen and four insurgents were killed on Monday morning during a fierce clash in the Dand Patan district of southeastern Paktia province, an official said.

Heavily armed insurgents attacked Afghan Local Police (ALP) posts between Muqbal and Merikhel areas around 9pm, sparking a firefight that lasted until noon, provincial Police Chief Brig. Gen. Zalmai Oryakhel told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the clash came to an end after police and army reinforcements reached the site and surrounded the attackers. Five policemen were also injured in the clash that left four attackers dead and several others injured, Oryakhel said, but gave no figures.

The Talibaninfo-icon have so far said nothing about the clash in Dand Aw Patan that shares border with Pakistaninfo-icon’s Parachinar area in Kurram tribal region.

The policemen killed included one border police official and one Afghan National Police (ANP) member.

Haji Mamoor, a tribal elder in the area, said the two sides had been pounding each other’s positions for several hours.
