KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The nation is oberving today a day of mourning for victims of the massive landslide tragedy in northeastern Badakhshan province.

More than 21,000 people were confirmed dead and hundreds left missing after a massive landslide buried an entire village in the Aab Barik area of Argo district on Friday.

A day earlier, President Hamid Karzai announced May 4 as a day of mourning over the catastrophy. The national flag is flying half-mast in offices across the country and Afghan diplomatic missions around the worldinfo-icon.

The president has expressed his deep sorrows over the catastrophe and urged all countrymen as well as aid organisations to help the victims.   Headed by Vice-President Karim Khalili, a high-level delegation has been sent to Badakhshan to provide assistance to the victims and present its report to Karzai.
