MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The special police unit in central Maidan Wardak province got a new building, with all facilities, an official said on Sunday.

Governor Abdul Majeed Khogyani and a number of military and civil officials participated in the inaugural ceremony, the governor’s spokesman said.

Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News the facility had been built on five acres of land in a year at a cost of $3 million provided by the US.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor appreciated performance of the special police unit and underlined more facilities for the force to bolster security.

Interior Ministry official Maj. Gen. Asadullah Sherzad said Wardak was among the provinces with appropriate buildings for special police units.

He said the building would serve as a training centre for security forces by Afghan and foreign trainers.

Lutfullah Zaryab, the acting police chief, said the building had the capacity for 800 personnel.
