KABUL, during a blitz by Pakistani forces on Wednesday morning.

At least 80 fighters were wounded when the Pakistan Army’s gunship helicopters and fighter jets struck insurgent positions in the restive region, media reports said.

Rebel hideouts in Mosaki, Zara Mela and Esorti viallges of Mir Ali sub-district were shelled, DawnNews quoted military sources as saying. Parts of Miranshah were also hit.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that around 32 militants, including some key commanders and foreign militants, had been killed in the airstrikes.

Some militants involved in terrorist activities in Peshawar, Bajaur, Mohmand agencies and other areas were also killed in the raid, which came two days after the kidnapping of a Chinese tourist and Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Sharif’s return from Afghanistan.

One senior military official in Miranshah told the news agency Reuters: “Before the launch of the air strikes, we had confirmed intelligence information about hideouts of the militants and their top commanders.”
