Suicide car bombing plot foiled in Qalat

QALAT (Pajhwok):  A joint Afghan-ISAF force detected and precisely destroyed an explosives-laden car ready for a suicide attack in the capital of southern Zabul province on Thursday, police said.

The Corolla car was found in the Walikhel area of Shahr-i-Safa district at 4am, deputy provincial police chief Col. Ghulam Gilani Farahi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said there had been intelligence reports about insurgents having entered an explosives-laden vehicle into Qalat, the provincial capital, to carry out a suicide car bombing.

He said the vehicle was detected in the Walikhel area by a joint Afghan and ISAF force, who also detained two suspects in connection with the plot. Farahi said Afghan forces had launched search operations in various parts of the province against rebels.
