KABUL (Pajhwok): Three Afghan national football team players and their coach sustained injuries in a traffic accident in the Maldives on Saturday after their semifinal match in the Asia Challenge Cup against Laos.

The players were on two buses going back from the match venue when the accident occurred, the Afghanistan Football Federation wrote on its Facebook page.

A motorcycle, accompanying the two buses, caused one vehicle to hit the other. Skipper Islamuddin Amiri was slightly injured in the leg, while Mustafa Azadzoy got his waist seriously injured. Yousuf Kargar, Afghanistan’s head coach, was among the injured.

The federation said the wounded players had been taken to hospital.

In the challenge cup, Afghanistan have so far played three matches against the Philippine, Turkmenistan and Laos. The Afghans won 3-1 against Turkmenistan and drew with Laos and the Philippine.
