FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): Human rights, civil society province.

The deaths occurred during the past three days, with three civilians falling prey to a roadside bomb, the Taliban’s weapon of choice and remaining shot dead by insurgents after pulling them off a passenger vehicle.

Three labourers, a fourth civilian and an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier were on their way home in a passenger vehicle when stopped by militants in Chaharsada district and were gunned down.

The blast killed two civilians and an Afghan Local Police (ANP) member in Seyatakh area of the provincial capital, said Javad Rezayee, the provincial Human Rights Commissioner.

He told a press conference in Chaghcharan they strongly condemned the killings and wanted the criminals to be brought to justice.

“We ask all parties to the conflict to avoid killing civilians, children and women and respect Islamic and international laws.”

He came hard on security forces, saying they had confined their role to the provincial capital alone and had no concern for what was happening in other areas.

Civil society activist Naqibullah Amini said: “Militants have once again proved their disregard for the lives of ordinary civilians. They donot respect any laws and are out only to create panic among people.”

He said civilians were often killed by militants and unidentified armed men and people felt insecure in the provincial capital as well despite the fact that they had nothing to do with the conflict.

In a joint statement, the provincial Human Rights Office, civil society activists and journalists condemned the killings and asked militants to avoid killing innocent civilians.
