WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The United Nations Security Council on Friday strongly condemned a terrorist attack on the Indian Consulate in Herat province and underlined the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The members of the Security Council condemned acts of violence against diplomatic and consular representatives, which endanger or take innocent lives and seriously impede the normal work of such representatives and officials,” the Security Council said in a statement late Friday night.
Commending the effective action of the Afghan National Security Forces in thwarting the assault, the Security Council members reiterated their serious concern at the threats posed by the Taliban, Al-Qaida and other terrorist and extremist groups to the local population, security forces, and international military and assistance efforts.
In the statement, members of the UN Security Council also underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice. It urged all countries to cooperate actively with the Afghan authorities in this regard.
“The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed, and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group,” the statement said.
